Some of the earliest and most beautifully wrought latches were made for use on interior shutters as was the latch above. These latches were decorative and very important as the interior shutters were the window security of the times. This surface mount wrought iron open work spring latch is 18th century and measures 7 1/4" x 3 1/2" high. These latches are not reversible and this particular latch is left hand. The latch bar features a nicely worked finial for gripping at the end - shown in angled photo below. Also shown in angled photo is curved edge. Last photo on right shows this edge from the back where the mount with mount holes can been seen. Latch is as found and is not complete.
