Early 19th century high quality American mortise lock, circa 1840, for interior or exterior doors featuring unusual triangular rosettes and a distinctive keyway. Restored mortise lock is not reversible and is for right hand mount only with a plain iron face and strike. The doorknobs measure 2" in diameter, the rosettes are 2 3/4" on each side with a brass furl in the center of triangular iron. This lock set shows the early use of iron and brass together and is all original. The oval brass key escutcheons are 2 1/8" x 1 1/2". One original key is included. This set is original and complete. Rare pair of Victorian era cast bronze large entry size
doorknobs with sumburst around a cherub head. Knobs are in original patina
and mounted on a 3/8" split-spindle for an entry lock. Knobs measure 2
3/8| in diameter and are very solid and heavy.
