Antique Door Bells and Door Knockers
Early Victorian mechanical gong door bell with several patent dates from the early 1870's on the back of the bell. Assembly mounts directly through an exterior door with the "T" handle on the outside and the bell (below) mounted on the interior side of the door. The operating stem from the handle (side view below right) mounts through the door into the bell to trip the bell and ring. Cast bronze "T" style lever handle measures 5 3/4" high overall with a 2" high "T" handle. Decorative cast bronze mechanical bell measures 5" in diameter and extends 2" from door. Bell rings with a single hearty gong that can be heard throughout the house each time the handle is pulled. Complete and restored to working order, bell is adjustable to most door thickness - operating lever has a 3" extension as shown in side photo below. At the time, bells and handles were sold separately and customer's chose each individually - hence the plain bronze bell and the ornate exterior handle. Comes with slotted screws.
