Exceptional and very early wrought iron hasp catch with a pivot drop hook.  Dating from the 17th century this hasp itself measures 8" deep x 1" and is left hand only - not reversible.  The locking drop hook is approx. 1" diameter with a 1 1/4" drop.  Hasp has an attached cotter pin pivot in back mount hole as well as a U staple which mounts through the slot and door for the hook to drop into to secure the door.  This type of latch was used for many applications wherever a door needed a one sided catch.  The raised finger grasp is off-set and stands proud 1/2" to allow the grasp.  This hasp is very good condition and is finely decorated with an incised linear design.
