Decorative cast iron mortise lock set manufactured by Niles Chicago Co. with signed patent dates of June 25, 1878 and May 18, 1880 on the lock.  Escutcheon plates measure 5 1/4" x 1 3/4" and are accompanied by black jet pottery knobs.  Niles Chicago patented and used an unusual door knob with their locks that do not operate on a spindle but mount easily and directly into the patented Niles Chicago lock - if you are unfamiliar with this type of lock, mounting instructions can be provided.   This type of lock is extremely effective and efficient when mounted.   Locks are reversible,  restored, and complete with strike and key as shown below.  Backset is 2 1/2" - iron lock face is 5 1/2" x 7/8".  Comes with slotted screws for mounting.
