Restored Antique Rim (Box) Locks, page 32
Antique wrought iron surface mount covered plate latch, circa 1810. A type of plate latch where the lock works were covered rather than exposed. Latch measures 3 3/8" high x 5" deep x 1/2" and is accompanied by early narrow neck brass knobs 1 5/8"diameter in original patina. Exterior knob and rosette are pictured to the left of the latch and the rosette is our own new replacement. This type of lock is not reversible and is left hand only. The spindle will be lengthened to fit the purchaser's door thickness - please provide this information in the Comments Section when ordering. Latch is in excellent condition, restored to a black finish, and complete with it's wrought iron drive-in rat-tail keeper. Photo below right shows the latch back view which is completely enclosed also. Lock offers a privacy function operated by the brass finger slide that can be seen on the lower edge of the lock in photo below left. This slide locks the bar and the knobs will not operate the latch. Comes complete with slotted screws.
