Restored Antique Rim (Box) Locks, page 37
An 1850's version of the American "1842" antique vertical rim lock, one of the earliest cast iron reversible rim locks, patented in 1842. Lock is reversible due to the patented latch that is beveled on all sides while the keeper has a large lip. This latch and keeper allowed the lock to be reversed simply by turning it over and mounting it on whichever side of the door you wished. Lock is restored and complete with cast iron trim and original brown swirl mineral knobs. Lock measures.4 1/8" high x 3 3/8" deep without the original 7/8" keeper which has the extended patent date imprinted on it of Feb. 24, 1857. Night latch at the top locks the knobs for privacy without using the keyed dead bolt. Restored, complete with key, and ready to install - comes with slotted screws.
