Double keyway cast iron Victorian vertical rim lock for an
exterior door, manufactured circa 1870. Lock measures 6" x 3 1/4" and
is reversible. The top key works or retracts the
latch from the outside when the knobs are locked with the privacy night latch
found at the top of the tock. The small drawback knob (5/8" diameter) seen
on the center edge of the lock was used to open the door from inside when knobs
were locked by sliding it back. This knob can be changed to either side of
the lock to change the handing. This feature made sure no one could enter
your house from the outside without the latch key yet the door is easily opened
from inside with the drawback knob. The bottom keyway throws the deadbolt which was used for
security at night. Keeper measures 1 1/16" width. Backset is 3".
Lock is trimed with ornate cast iron knobs, rosette, and double key escutcheon
with swinging cover over the bottom keyhole. Lock comes with one key for each keyway, as well as slotted mounting screws.
