Cast iron Victorian sliding gate lock, with a patent date on the inside of Dec. 30 '90 - the maker's mark is also present but unclear.  The lock is in two halves and is mounted on a brass plate to simulate the mounting.  It takes a 1/4" plate on the gate to mount and the lock measures 1" thick when mounted together.  Measuring 5 5/8" high overall x 5" deep with a 2 11/16" backset.  Lock is reversible and comes with two keys.  The inside bronze pocket handle pictured above is always unlocked and operates freely by squeezing, while the outside is always locked and needs the key to enter - the dark finish pocket handle is not a handle and does not operate - lock opens by key only.   Very nice decorative detail and a solid and well manufactured gate lock from the 1890's.
