Restored Antique Rim (Box) Locks, page 56
Reference # 242-134
An early American beveled molded edge non-reversible cast iron rim lock - all original, unsigned but very similar to the signed Adams rim locks patented in 1842. This locks is LEFT hand only and not reversible. Lock measures 4 7/8" x 3 5/8" without the keeper which is 1" additional. Restored to a black finish and complete with original cast iron trim. This lock has a specialized knob mount similar to the early Adams in that the lock side knob is permanently attached to the lock body - it differs in that the off-side knob when mounted is secured in place via a screw located in the outside lock edge and when tightened secures the outside knob in place (shown in photo below right). This is a rare mount probably used for only a short time. Backset is 2 1/2". Knobs are original brown mineral swirl, the key escutcheon measures 1 7/8" x 1 1/8" and rosette is 2 1/4". Complete, and ready to install - comes with slotted mounting screws.
