American "1842" antique vertical entry size rim lock, one of  the earliest cast iron reversible rim locks made by Calvin Adams (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania),, patented in 1842.  Lock is reversible due to the patented latch that is beveled on all sides while the keeper has a large lip.  This latch and keeper allowed the lock to be reversed simply by turning it over and mounting it on whichever side of the door you wished.  Lock is complete with the earliest original white porcelain knobs found with this type of lock that did not use a side-knob screw.  The lock side knob is pinned directly onto the spindle while the off-side knob mounts into the 2 1/2" special pewter rosette which keeps it in place. (Directions for installation assistance can be provided upon request).  Lock measures.6" high x 4" deep without the original 1" keeper.  Key escutcheon with swining cover measures 2 1/2" x 1".  Night latch at the top locks the knobs for privacy without using the keyed dead bolt.  Back set is 2 7/8".  Restored to a black finish, all original parts, and complete with key, Ready to install - comes with slotted screws.

American "1842" antique vertical entry size rim lock, one of  the earliest cast iron reversible rim locks, patented in 1842, with extended patents in the 1850's.  This particular lock has a signed keeper dated Pat. Feb. 23, 57, which places it after the 1857 patent extension.  Lock is reversible due to the patented latch that is beveled on all sides while the keeper has a large lip.  This latch and keeper allowed the lock to be reversed simply by turning it over and mounting it on whichever side of the door you wished.  Lock is complete with original cast iron trim and original brown swirl mineral knobs that did not use a side-knob screw.  The lock side knob is pinned directly onto the spindle while the off-side knob mounts into the 2 1/2" special rosette which keeps it in place. Back set is 2 7/8" to knob and 2 1/4" to keyhole center.  Restored to a black finish, all original parts, and complete with two keys.  Ready to install - comes with slotted screws.
