A late 18th or early 19th century Suffolk style wrought iron thumb latch with the thumb press below the upper cusp.  Handle measures 10 1/4" high x 1 1/2" across the top cusp and is 7/8" across on the grip. The handle has a 5" grip opening.   Thumb press is flat and peened in place with a nicely curved arched finger lift on the off-side (shown below).   Latch will accommodate a door up to 1 3/4" thick without modification.  The accompanying bar set features a  9 1/4" bar, a 2 1/2" drive-in staple, and a 3 1/2" overall drive-in keeper.  All original and restored to black finish.  In very nice condition with all original parts.

A late 18th or early 19th century Suffolk style wrought iron thumb latch with the thumb press below the upper cusp rather than in it.  Handle measures 11" high x 1 5/8" across the top cusp and is 1 1/4"" across the nicely beveled front of the handle. The handle has a 6" grip opening.   Thumb press is flat and peened in place with a nicely curved arched finger lift on the off-side (shown below).   Latch will accommodate a door up to 1 1/2" thick without modification.  The accompanying bar set features a  10 1/4" bar, a 2 3/4" drive-in staple, and a 5" x 3 3/4" high drive-in rat-tail keeper.  Restored to black finish and in nice condition with all original parts.  The keeper shows some surface rust related pitting.

An elegant looking Suffolk style wrought iron thumb latch with the handle measuring 8" high x 1 1/4" across the cusps.  The handle is well worked, flat with a 3 1/2" grip opening and 3/4" across the front.   Thumb press is flat and pinned with a nicely curved arched finger lift on the off-side as shown below.   Latch will accommodate a door up to 1 1/8" thick without modification.  The accompanying bar set features a  6" bar, a 2 1/8" drive-in staple, and a 3 1/2" overall drive-in keeper. Appropriate wear with all original parts and restored to black finish.

New old stock cast iron gate latches in original japanned finish, early 20th century.  The latch is three pieces as pictured below - the back mount, the toggle latch, and the keeper.  The back mount measures 4 1/2" high x 15/16" wide and the catch extends 2 1/2" when mounted.  The keeper back measures 2 1/4" high x 1 1/4" wide.

Early Suffolk style thumb latch handle in wrought iron from the last half of the 18th century.  Thumb press is flat with a typical early straight lift (shown below right) which will accommodate a door up to 1" thick without modification. Handle measures 8 1/4" high x 2 1/2" at widest point across the cusp.  Hand grasp has a 3" grip opening.  Handle is not restored - original aged patina intact.  This is a handle only - no accompanying bar set.
