Wrought iron thumb latch in an unusual and early Norfolk style circa 1820, with a square cornered handle. Handle back plate measures 7 5/8" high x 1 3/4" wide while the handle itself is 3 1/8" and extends 1 1/8" from the back plate. Side view of the flat thumb press below left shows the curved bar lift that will accommodate a door up to 1 3/8" thick without modification. The accompanying bar set has the original 5 1/4" bar with back member mount and small 5/8" diameter pull, our own replacement surface mount staple (2 1/4" x 3/4") and surface mount keeper (2 1/4" x 3/4"). Restored to black finish and complete with slotted mounting screws.

Wrought iron thumb latch in an unusual and early Norfolk style circa 1820, with a square cornered handle. Handle back plate measures 8 1/4" high x 2" wide while the handle itself is 4" and extends 1 3/16" from the back plate. The handle has been re-attached to the back plate at some earlier time via small welds rather than peens. Side view of the flat thumb press below left shows the deeply curved bar lift that will accommodate a door up to 2" thick without modification. The accompanying bar set is our own new replacement with a 7" bar on a 2 1/4" x 3/4" member mount, a surface mount staple (2 1/4" x 3/4") and surface mount keeper (2 1/4" x 3/4"). Restored to black finish and complete with slotted mounting screws.

Well executed and elegant looking early Suffolk thumb latch in wrought iron, circa 1820. Dished thumb press has a slightly curved pivot lift. Handle measures 9 3/4" high x 1 3/4" at widest point across. Hand grasp has a 3 3/4" grip opening and is nicely formed measuring 5/8" wide. Side view of thumb below right shows period straight lift that will accommodate a door up to 1" thick. The accompanying original bar set, pictured below offers a 5 3/4" bar, a 1 1/2" drive-in staple, and a drive-in keeper. The top left mount hole has some enlargement tearing from the mount but is still very solid and secure for use. Comes complete with screws.

Suffolk style thumb latch in wrought iron from circa 1820, featuring arrow shaped cusps. Thumb press is flat with a pivot lift with a slightly curved lift (shown below right) which will accommodate a door up to 1 1/8" thick. Handle measures 11" high x 2 1/8" at widest point across. Hand grasp has a 4 3/4" grip opening and is nicely worked into a nice wide flat handle measuring 1 1/4" wide. The accompanying original bar set, pictured center below, has a 8" bar with a 1 5/8" high drive-in staple and a drive-in jamb keeper. Restored and complete - comes with mounting screws.

A nicely executed wrought iron Suffolk style thumb latch, circa 1820, featuring arrowhead upper and lower cusps. This handle is a bit smaller and more delicate looking than typical in this type of latch. The thumb press is flat with a straight pivot lift (shown below left) which will accommodate a door up to 1 1/8" thick without modifications. Handle measures 7 1/2" high x 2" at widest point across. Hand grasp has a 2 1/2" grip opening and is nicely worked into a nice flat handle measuring 11/16" wide with decorative incised double lines. The accompanying original bar set also offers double incised line decorations in both the bar (7") and the staple (2" high) - the keeper and staple are drive-in types. Restored and complete - comes with mounting screws.

An early wrought iron bar latch, measuring 13" overall on the bar, circa 1800. The wrapped coil handle extends 2 1/2" from the door with a 1 1/2" diameter grasp. The bar itself is approx. 7/8" at widest. The accompanying staple is 2 3/4" high x 3 1/2" spikes. The drive-in keeper is 5" deep spike. This set is operational from one side of a door only and must be used on a door where interior access is not a concern. Bar is reversible and may be mounted in either direction for right or left hand use. The piece has much early character and is in original aged iron patina.
